Local 728 Hardship Fund

Local 728's Hardship Fund is open for qualified Active members (non-retired) in need of financial aid.

Hardship Fund Terms & Conditions

Interest free “Hardship Fund” loans are available for up to $2,500.00* to any Active status (non-retired) Local 728 member, up to 200 members per year who meet qualification requirements.

*Union officers are limited to a maximum loan of $2,000.00

The fund contains an annual funding amount of $500,000.00.

Sign up for our Member-To-Member Dues Donation program!

Active, non-retired Local 728 members in financial need can sign up to receive a quarter’s dues donation from another member who is willing to donate one or more quarter’s dues.

The process is entirely anonymous and randomized.



Program Details

Drawings will be held beginning in the week prior to dues being due and continue until there are no more donors on the list.

Notice of member passing: Charles Chuck Larson on 8-24-24

I regret having to inform the membership of the passing of Brother Charles Larson on August 24th, 2024 at the age of 63.

Chuck Larson was initiated into Local 728 on September 13th, 1997 and was a member of Local 728 for 27 years.

Brother Larson worked primarily on production as a lamp operator on television and film productions. Some of his later work was on Thunderman’s, Chelsea Are You There?, Crash & Bernstein, Knight Squad, B-Positive and The Fairly Odd Parents. He retired in October 2023.

Notice of member passing: Brother Charles Chuck Sharp on 8-17-2024

I regret having to inform the membership of the passing of Local 728 member and IATSE Gold Card holder, Brother Charles “Chuck” Sharp at the age of 79 on August 17th, 2024. Brother Sharpe was obligated into membership on March 23, 1974 and was a 50 year member of Local 728. Chuck retired 17 years ago from Active membership in 2007.

Notice of passing: Brother John Carney on July 14th, 2024

I regret having to inform the membership of the passing of John Carney on July 14th 2024. Brother Carney was 79 years old. He was a 35-year member of Local 728 after taking his oath of obligation in May of 1989. John retired from work in 2016 after a 27 year career as a set lighting technician at which time he moved to the Santa Cruz area.
