Ready Mix Workers Get Set to Strike

Northern California Teamsters Overwhelmingly Vote Against Contract Offer

The contract would have covered 600 drivers, yard persons and batch persons, who have also authorized a strike against both companies.(SAN FRANCISCO) – Northern California Ready Mix drivers have turned down a last, best and final offer from Central and Cemex Ready Mix companies.

Teamsters Locals 853, 315 and 287 represent drivers working at numerous company facilities in Alameda, Santa Clara and Contra Costa counties.

The strike will affect various construction projects in San Francisco and the Silicon Valley, among other areas. No new negotiations sessions are scheduled.

“This was an offer that was recommended by the union’s shop stewards’ bargaining committee, but was rejected by an almost 2-1 vote of the membership,” said Rome Aloise, Teamsters Joint Council 7 President. “We are a union that represents the desires of our members and we now will move to strike over the issues that our members did not like. We will stay out as long as it takes to fix these issues. Obviously, this will affect a lot of construction in the greater Bay Area.”
