California Nurses Association – Closing Community Hospital Long Beach Creates “Healthcare Desert”

The California Nurses Association is protesting plans to close Community Hospital in Long Beach. The nurses union is joining with community activists who want to keep the hospital open.

The nurses say closing the hospital will have a severe health impact on the community. Memorial Health System – with profits of nearly a billion dollars since 2010 – says it must close due to problems with seismically retro-fitting the hospital.

The nurse’s union says no study data has been publicly provided to back up the hospital’s sudden announcement that the facility must close within a few months.

CNA says “Without Community Hospital, Long Beach, local patients are left living in a healthcare desert.”
