No worker should ever be forced to sign away her rights just to get a job. Today, the California state Senate resoundingly rejected the all-too-common practice of companies using forced arbitration to silence workers and strip them of their basic rights.

AB 3080 is landmark legislation that gives workers the fundamental right to hold corporations accountable for wage theft, sexual harassment and other abuses in a court of law. By outlawing the rigged practice of bosses forcing workers to sign away their rights as a condition of employment, this bill breaks new ground in the fight to protect working people from exploitation.

We commend the state Senate for passing this measure and thank bill author Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher for her tireless support of justice on the job. In the era of #MeToo and #TimesUp holding harassers accountable, California can’t miss the opportunity to lead on this important issue. We urge Governor Brown to sign this critical bill without delay to offer much-needed protection to workers.
