Telemundo Performers Vote to Join SAG-AFTRA

In a historic vote, telenovela performers at Spanish-language station Telemundo have voted to join SAG-AFTRA. The vote was 91–21 in favor of membership, and this is the first time in 65 years a group of performers at a major television network sought a unionization election. The new bargaining unit will cover actors, dancers, singers and stunt performers for shows produced in the United States.

Study Says $1 Trillion Infrastructure Spending Would Create 11 Million Jobs

More than 11 million jobs would be created over ten years if Congress approved a $1 trillion U.S. infrastructure rebuild. That’s according to a study from Georgetown University’s Center On Education and The Workforce.

The report says it would at least temporarily revive America’s blue collar economy because more than half of the new jobs would go to high school educated and college dropout workers.

North American Build Trades President Sean McGarvey told the Reuters news agency that "more frustration will build up if it doesn't come around quick enough".

Financing for the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound wholesaling operation is coming from the Bank of Labor.

IMLU Local 207 President Rocky Alley told the Portland Press Herald that it's been a dream of the union lobstering workers for two years. A co-op like this, he says, will help the workers make more money and have stability for generations to come.

 

AFL-CIO, Fight For $15 Celebrate Defeat Of Trump Labor Secretary

A massive campaign waged against U.S. Labor Secretary nominee Andy Puzder forced his withdrawal Wednesday. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says "It’s a reminder of the collective power of working people..." 

 

Trumka says it also sends a message to Trump that it's time to change course completely, not double down. Trumka says Puzder's withdrawal is "great news for everyone who wants an America where wages rise, benefits are strong and unions are growing." 

 

LA Building Trades: Measure S Will Cost 12,000 Jobs And Affordable Housing

The Build Better LA Coalition opposes the March 7th ballot initiative Measure S. The coalition says it will ban the construction of affordable housing while eliminating 12,000 good jobs with benefits.

 "We do have a shortage of housing - good affordable housing - in Los Angeles. very expensive to live here. But the existing workforce has to travel out of the city because they can't afford to live here.
