Nearly 3,000 South Carolina Boeing Workers To Vote February 15th On Union Representation

Nearly 3,000 Boeing workers in South Carolina will get a chance to vote for union representation February 15th. The International Association of Machinists filed for the NLRB election inJ January.

IndustriALL, a global union federation, is wishing the IAM well in the election.

The IAM had scheduled an election in 2015 but withdrew before it happened in the face of an intense anti-union campaign from state politicians and others. This time there will be no withdrawal.

They are protesting Andy Puzder's nomination as Labor Secretary Monday at Hardee's HQ in St. Louis, CKE corporate HQ in Anaheim California and a couple dozen other cities.

Mesa Flight Attendants Taking Strike Vote After Years Of Stalled Talks

Mesa flight attendants are taking a strike vote later this month. The AFA-CWA represents Mesa workers have been in labor contract talks for years that are now stalled.

The union says they are underpaid compared to other flight attendants flying for United and American Airlines. Mesa is based in Phoenix.

AFA-CWA represents 700 Mesa flight attendants. If they vote to authorize a strike the workers can't call the strike until the National Medication Board must declares talks at an impasse.

Republicans in Congress want to weaken the National Labor Relations Act. They want to amend it with a national so-called Right To Work bill introduced Wednesday.

It attacks unions financially by outlawing union security clauses in collective bargaining agreements. Those clauses - voted on by workers at union shops - require workers covered by union contracts to pay dues or fees to support the collective bargaining efforts.

Nobody gets forced to join a union, that's already illegal.
