The International Union of Foodworkers is urging Coca-Cola to stop harsh, blatantly anti-union practices at a bottling plant in Indonesia.

The union says Coca-Cola management is well aware of what's happening and have the power to stop it.

The Indonesian Coca-Cola bottler is trying to stamp out independent and democratic unions at the plant.

Canada's Radio Labour reports that global unemployment is expected to continue to climb through 2017.

International Labor Organization (ILO) General Secretary Guy Ryder says the trend is higher joblessness.

U.S. Based Norwegian Flight Attendants Join AFA-CWA

U.S. based Norwegian flight attendants are joining the Association of Flight Attendants CWA.

The executive board of the Norwegian Cabin Crew Association had agreed to join AFA-CWA pending a vote by their membership. AFA-CWA says 59 percent of the U.S. based Norwegian flight attendants voting supported joining the AFA-CWA.

The union says the vote overcame what it described as "an intense campaign of management interference and union-busting during the vote."

Cornell University Grad Student Workers Voting On Union Representation

Thousands of Cornell University grad student workers will vote Monday and Tuesday to achieve union representation.

Cornell Graduate Students United (CGSU) are affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers. AFT President Randi Weingarten was on campus over the weekend to help get out the vote.

Voting is being conducted by the American Arbitration Association.

There are about 2000 members of CGSU. The grad student union at Cornell was formed in 2014.

Uber Loses Bid To Overturn Seattle Taxi Driver Union Rights Ordinance

The multi-billion dollar Uber company has failed to overturn a Seattle ordinance giving Uber drivers the right to unionize.

The Teamsters are mounting an effort to organize Uber drivers in Seattle. A Washington state judge ruled against Uber's effort to legally overturn the city ordinance.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has a separate suit against Seattle for giving Uber, Lyft and other taxi drivers the right to form unions.

Seattle's elected city council unanimously passed the union rights ordinance in 2015.
