The AFL-CIO says labor's electoral education campaign, often going door to door, has driven down Donald Trump's support among union members.
In June polling the AFL-CIO found support over 40 percent among union members in some battleground states. But labor's campaign has driven down that support to the low-thirties - more of a typical number for Republican support among union members.
The AFL-CIO says Trump is running behind Mitt Romney's numbers when it comes to the percentage of union members planning to vote for him.
AFL-CIO leaders are on the campaign trail for the final week of labor's get out the vote effort.
AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka will be at events in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler will be in Missouri and Pennsylvania.
AFL-CIO Vice President Tefere Gebre will be helping get out labor's vote in North Carolina, Florida and Pennsylvania.
A door to door effort and phone banks are also pushing to get out the labor vote in this final week.
California’s comeback from the brink of financial ruin during the Great Recession is one of the greatest success stories in a generation. While states like Kansas and Wisconsin responded to budgetary uncertainty by cutting education funding with disastrous results, California voters took a different approach, enacting Prop 30 in 2012 to boost school funding to shrink class sizes, hire teachers, bolster community colleges and fund children’s health care.
Our state prisons are dangerously overcrowded, and have been taken over by the federal government. With Washington imploring Californians to come up with a plan for how to reduce our overcrowding problem, a coalition of law enforcement leaders, victims rights groups and Gov. Jerry Brown have crafted Proposition 57.
