Activist Groups Tell Congress : No Swamp Cabinet

Opposition to the the Trump administration agenda is continuing after the massive protests over the weekend.

People’s Action, MoveOn.org, Working Families Party, and other allies across the country held actions Tuesday against the Trump cabinet nominees. The activists were the offices of Democratic and Republican senators carrying a message to stop the "Swamp Cabinet".

The Trump resistance is mobilizing in Bakersfield California Friday at the congressional office of Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy - the House Majority Leader.

Senior citizens, nurses and Kern County residents will tell McCarthy to protect, improve and expand Medicare, not cut it. Hundreds of people are expected at Rep. McCarthy's Bakersfield California office to speak up for Medicare.

 

Teamsters Praise Trump's Withdrawal From TPP, Hope NAFTA Fix Is Next

Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa says Trump is making good on his campaign promise to withdraw the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.

Hoffa says “With this decision, the president has taken the first step toward fixing 30 years of bad trade policies that have cost working Americans millions of good-paying jobs.”

Thousands of people will "school Trump" the day before the Inauguration January 19th with tweets at #SchoolTrump Tweetstorm.

Public education supporters - students, parents and educators -will also protest at schools against what they say is "Trump's anti--immigrant, fear-based rhetoric and policies" while defending public education.

Organizers say these tweetstorm actions "support the fight to protect public schools from privatization and union busting as well as to create safe spaces for immigrants, women and minorities."

Two-Thirds Of Surveyed Workers At Labor Secretary Nominee's Company Report Sexual Harassment

Workers employed by the CKE Restaurants - the company ran by Labor Secretary nominee Andrew Puzder - report high rates of wage and hour violations and sexual harassment.

That's according to a survey of CKE employees done by Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC United). Hundreds of workers were surveyed using social media.

Workers Protest Puzder's Labor Nomination At Hardees And Carl's Jr. In Two Dozen Cities

Cashiers and cooks led protests in more than two dozen cities Wednesday against fast food CEO Andy Puzder's nomination as U.S. Secretary of Labor.

The protests at Carl's Jr. and Hardees stores asserted that Puzder represents the worst of the rigged economy Donald Trump pledged to take on as president.

The workers protesting Puzder say if he's Labor Secretary it will mean years of continuing low pay, wage theft, sexual harassment and racial discrimination instead of making the lives of workers better.

In defense of workers rights - Remembering MLK

As the nation commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King's struggles for justice - and as we face the beginning of another momentous struggle with its own March On Washington in just a few days - let's also remember Dr. King's defense of worker rights.

He was killed by an assassin's bullet while in solidarity with striking Memphis public sanitation workers.
