Class Description:

SUMMARY

This hands-on project-based workshop provides an advanced exploration of professional skills with virtual and augmented presentation workflows in Vectorworks Spotlight Design Software.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Create and export static spherical 3D Panoramic Images that are interactive in web browsers and popular social media apps.

Publish HTML based WebView virtual reality experiences that clients and team members can interactively “walk through” or navigate on their own.

Layout and publish interactive walkthroughs with detailed waypoints for the viewer.

Develop interactive 3D models that can be embedded natively on web-pages and presented in stereoscopic views using 3rd party web-based software as a service.

Publish interactive 3D PDF presentations that can be attached to client emails and opened on most devices.

Export digital show models from Vectorworks Spotlight in 3D format and import into the Unity 3D game engine. An essential tool for presenting projects on professional virtual reality headsets including (Oculus, HTC Vive, and more).

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Handheld devices, and stereoscopic video devices (VR Goggles) have finally become common tools for design and presentation. Clients have become savvy to request these modes of display as an integral part of project proposal and previsualization in production workflows.

The designer and technical professional with a firm understanding of these tools and presentation methods easily sets themselves above the competition in the contemporary production environment.

Participants in this workshop will develop industry leading skills in producing virtual and augmented presentations that immerse their clients in digital environments, create a better understanding of proposed productions, and ultimately earn more business at the upper end of the market.

The first half of the workshop relies on some of the native VR and AR formats supported by current Vectorworks Spotlight Design Software. These formats include panoramic images and WebView VR formats. Attention will be focused on origin placement, textures, light, shadow, environment backgrounds and lighting to best display the show model in interactive formats.

The second half of the workshop will step beyond the capabilities of Vectorwork Spotlight Design software and look at utilizing gaming industry software Unity 3D and Unreal Engine.

Participants will have the opportunity to view their show models in Virtual Reality (VR) headsets and interact with the hardware during the workshop. VR hardware will be sourced and provided by Tangably, Inc. or a 3rd party provider verified by Tangably.

At the conclusion of this workshop participants should achieve a familiarity with the digital workflows and the hardware required to present their show files in a professional environment to the most discriminating and demanding entertainment industry representatives.
