Teamsters Sending Truckers To Puerto Rico To Help Distribute Humanitarian Aid

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the AFL-CIO are working to provide qualified volunteers for relief efforts in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria.  Thousands of tons of food, water and medicine intended for humanitarian aid after last week’s disaster remain stranded at the Port of San Juan, partly due to a lack of truck drivers to distribute the goods.  The Teamsters are joining with labor unions across the country to find skilled workers who can travel to Puerto Rico to provide aid.  They currently have offers from over a hundred truckers willing to help, though the union says it is still unclear if there are trucks available to move the containers, fuel to operate the trucks or road access to the distribution centers.  The Teamsters are also collecting monetary donations to support those impacted by Hurricanes Maria, Harvey and Irma.
