4-22-2020 IATSE Priorities for Subsequent COVID-19 Relief Legislation

To help support the Entertainment Industry’s professional workers, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) are urging congress to prioritize certain items in subsequent COVID-19 relief packages. One of the first priorities on the IATSE’s list is to require the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to issue an Emergency Temporary Standard to protect those performing essential work in news and media- such as converting facilities into field hospitals – from occupation exposure to infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

The IATSE also urges congress to protect the healthy pension plans and earned pension checks of entertainment workers, to provide fair access to government economic support for all nonprofits, to preserve access to affordable and quality healthcare, to ensure tax fairness for middle class creative professionals, to extend and expand existing COVID-19 economic support programs to sustain entertainment workers until they can safely return to work, and to provide economic support for organizations in the arts, entertainment, and media industries to get people back to work.
