Days before a potential strike against unfair practices, the Los Angeles Labor Movement is joining 6,000 janitors across Los Angeles County to support their rights to be treated fairly as they fight for fair wages and protections against economic exploitation, wage theft, and sexual assault.

200,000 convicted felons in Virginia will have the right to vote in November

Gov. Terry McAuliffe will allow more than 200,000 ex-cons in Virginia to register to vote in the upcoming presidential election, one of the biggest actions taken by a state to instantly restore voting rights.
The change applies to all felons who have completed their sentences and been released from supervised probation or parole. The Democratic governor’s decision particularly affects black residents of Virginia: 1 in 4 African Americans in the state has been permanently banned from voting because of laws restricting the rights of those with convictions.

Verizon is offshoring jobs, records say

Verizon has been moving call center work overseas, and IT jobs may be shifting as well.
A key issue raised by labor unions in their weeklong strike against Verizon is the offshoring of work. The unions say Verizon has plans to send more jobs overseas. Verizon isn't saying what it is doing in this respect, but there is a paper trail of documents filed by its employees that point to offshoring. Read more
