The National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) is the standard by which all electrical distribution systems in the entertainment industry are based.
This seminar will break down how the code works and highlight specific areas that are essential to our work. Knowing this information will help keep your productions safer and help in conversations with Electrical Inspectors, Fire Safety Officers, other Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and Production Managers when they either don't know our industry, understand how our jobs/equipment work, or we need to mitigate a hazard to production or the general public.
Some of the topics we will address from the perspective of the NEC include:
- The structure of the NEC and how to use it
- Grounding and bonding generators
- The use of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters and when not to use them
- Cable Types and Selection
- Using Indoor Equipment Outdoors
- Overcurrent Protection
- The "Tap Rules"
- Requirement that energized circuits and equipment be constantly supervised
- Articles specific to the entertainment industry (Article 518 through Article 540)
- Other Entertainment Standards and Resources
This course course covers topics that are listed in the body of knowledge for the ETCP Entertainment Electrician and Portable Power Distribution Systems Technician certifications.
