Sen. Tammy Baldwin Joins House Democrats On Bill To Protect Pensions

Wisconsin U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin says she is supporting legislation that would ensure 25,000 workers and retirees in Wisconsin and around the country keep their earned pensions in full.

Baldwin says without congressional action workers and retirees could be at risk.  Baldwin says the Butch Lewis Act authorizes the Treasury Department to make loans, “leveraged by safe investments, to pension plans to ensure that retirees and their families are guaranteed their promised benefits.”

Pension plans like the Teamsters Central States Pension Plan, the United Mine Workers Pension Plan and over 200 more plans nationwide are at risk.

This law, Baldwin says, would put these pensions plans back on solid ground for decades to come. Retired Teamsters joined Baldwin as she unveiled the legislation Thursday.
